On a Page Optimization Techniques

On-Page optimization techniques is what every blogger seeks.  This is because this SEO technique is still as valid as when SEO and search engines became popular. But it is easy to get lost, especially for a newbie blogger. What exactly does on-page optimization techniques mean?

What Does On-Page Optimization Techniques Mean?

On-Page Optimization Techniques are the various  ways of ensuring that a post (or page) is properly prepared for search engines. Such a post, when properly prepared would be sure to attract a lot of free (or organic) traffic. This sort of traffic is the best as traffic is ensured even without any effort on your part (after the initial efforts of course).

Keyword Density

After selecting your keyword for a blog post (or page), it is up to you to distribute it liberally in your new entry. However, there is something here of fundamental importance that you should note. Applying your keyword takes skill and expertise. This is particularly true if you have to do it in a great way and offend neither the search engines or your visitors.

This can be achieved by a SEO Plugin. WP SEO by Yoast and SEOPressor are both great and worth a try.

Keyword Length

Keyword length   is also an important index to consider when you’re keen on on-page optimization techniques. A very short keyword returns very broad results while a long one hardly returns any results at all. The wisdom lies in making sure that you use keywords that are approximately 3-5 words. This is because such keywords are highly targeted and if used properly, may return great results.

Interlinking is perhaps one of the greatest on-page optimization techniques known to SEO. Linking your content indicates great content (at least to crawlers). It also means your blog is related and not disjointed!

There is however, a caveat! The content you are linking to must be relevant or else you may lose all the benefits of interlinking even if every word of yours is actually interlinked!

How do search engine crawlers and bots get to know that you’re probably interlinking irrelevant and unconnected part of your posts? Your visitors tell them! If the link is  normal or natural, visitors should not be bouncing off after a few seconds! This is especially true if they have stayed on the previous page for a while.

Interlink, but only link relevant content. Want a clue? Check out Wikipedia!

Suggested Posts

Closely related with interlinking is entering suggested posts. Suggested posts are also one of the greatest on-page optimization techniques known to SEO. Their benefits are marvelous!

What benefits does entering suggested posts into a current post ensure?

  • It ensures more page views. More page views indicate relevancy of content to users and hence better rankings.
  • It reduces bounce rate more than 50%. A lower bounce rate is an indication of a quality, non spammy page.
  • Suggested posts also help better engagement of a post entry. Better engagement often translates to better relationship with readers which yields important signals like comments. A post with more comments is naturally favored by search engines. In the estimation of bots and crawlers, engagement means value and satisfaction of readers from content produced.

Shorter Sentences/Paragraphs

Longer sentences do not only confuse your readers – they confuse search engine crawlers too! Sentences that read like a line from a Nuclear Physics journal are to be avoided!

Paragraphs that have many sentences also cluster the the brain and reduces reading experience. Unfortunately, search engines see such sentences in the same light!

There is thus nothing wrong in cutting sentences into shorter meaningful phrases that can stand alone and convey meaning. In doing so, you’d be engaging in one of the great on-page optimization techniques known today and at the same time, pleasing both crawlers and human visitors!

Make Sure Your Post URL Contains Your Keyword

Making sure the URL of your post contains your keyword is a great way to ensure that you follow on-page optimization techniques to the latter. This is important because the URL of your blog post is the first part of your post crawlers crawl and present to visitors. This happens when a search keyword is entered.

The important tip to note here is that your post title should be crafted in such a way as to ensure that your chosen keyword constitute the first set of words on that particular URL.

Great chances are that with such diligence and creativity, your post will rank higher in the search engines when it shouldn’t  have, otherwise.

Always Add Photos And Make Their Titles Your Chosen Keyword

Adding photos to a blog entry is a great way of gaining the approval of search engines. Crawlers usually crawl images separate from your content. An entry that has an image is thus ‘voted in twice’ by the crawlers!

There is a tip anyway…always make sure that the title of your images contain your chosen keyword. And be sure that the images are relevant to both your keyword and entire discussion!
